Wicked Cool Sidebar now has memory

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

So, I knew this could be done. The sidebar now remembers where you put it, and if you left it open or closed. It is a pretty simple trick with JavaScript and cookies that took me about two hours to figure out. The effect will last a day, so if you come back a day later it will go back to the default spot. I could have just left it per visit, but ehh. Anyway, it works and “remembers” between the pages you view. I think that is pretty cool. Not bad for starting with JavaScript yesterday.

Try it out –>

Drag it somewhere and click to a different page. It should stay in the same place.

Expanding my horizons. Changing myself beyond what I can do, To baldly go where… wait. Wrong speech. Anyway. I am now fiddling with JavaScript. Never thought that would happen but it has. My first project– the awesome new sidebar. (more…)

Working on Wordbook

Wordbook is a plugin for wordpress that llows you to make posts to Facebook from inside your wordpress site. … But it doesn’t like my server config, so I am having some issues with it. Mostly  crashing when started– a pretty serious problem for any plugin. I dove into the code to see if I could find a simple work around, but no dice. The server restrictions where this site is hosted prohibit the code from knowing the real directory it is in.  So I am out of luck.  In other news, I asked a web buddy of mine to take a look at the site for usability.  A lot of you have told me that it is hard to get around, so in the next few weeks I should have much of that taken care of.

AndrewWills.net gets a new skin

So after 2 years of the old site it is out with the old and in with the new. It took a lot of planning, but I am finally migrating from my own puny CMS to a truly powerful system. It will take me a while to get the old posts put into WordPress, but bit-by-bit I will get it all back up. I also decided while I was changing the system behind the scenes to update the skin. I borrowed heavily from the design of flashnifties.com. I think it is a lot better than before. I have made many a WordPress theme completely before, and I know that there will be bugs. If you see anything, please be kind enough to let me know.
